“Our politicians have failed us”

That was my statement to POLITICO Europe on October 5th, as hundreds of climate justice activists – under the flag of United For Climate Justice – took on the streets of Brussels to demand a Stop Fossil Subsidies on a European level.

We are seeing repeatedly, how politicians plead to phase away from fossil fuels, but over and over again they are conceding oil companies to expand their fossil fuel production and handing out more subsidies under tax breaks. This has to stop!

The ongoing oral hearings at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) for an Advisory Opinion on the State’s Responsibility to Climate Change initiated by the Pacific Islands Students Fighting Climate Change and supported by the World’s Youth for Climate Justice (WYCJ), shows very clearly where our European states stand! 🔥 ⚖️ 🌐

They profess to be climate leaders, but at the highest court they take on a regressive stance. Our politicians ought to take responsibility for their stances and cannot walk away by washing their hands at the various international conferences. As they did at COP29.

It is time to take action ✊ And you can help 🫵

How?

Go protest in front of your government, ministry or local council. Join one of the various climate justice movements in your country. Taking on the streets helps and brings the topic back to the political agenda. As we did in October.
